At an oath taking ceremony organised by the channel at Vijay Chowk, celebrities interacted with the youth and formed a human chain to spread the message. Appealing to fellow citizens, Salman said, “I am an Indian. Nationalism is my religion. ‘Wanted’ responsible citizens who think about India first.” Salman and other celebrities encouraged people to forget all differences like caste, language, religion and region and unite to work towards India’s progress. “We should unite and do everything for the betterment of our country,” added the actor. Salman and Prabhu Deva took part in a signature campaign and encouraged people to pledge to make India first in all instances. In addition, students from educational institutions also performed a skit and cultural programmes in sync with the initiative.

Jody Powell

In May 1970, Powell joined gubernatorial candidate Jimmy Carter’s staff.  When Carter became the governor of Georgia in November 1970, Powell was appointed press secretary, a position he held through the end of Carter’s term as President of the United States.

From January 1982 to January 1987, he wrote a twice-weekly column syndicated by the Los Angeles Times and was a news analyst for ABC News, appearing on such shows as This Week with David Brinkley, Nightline and Good Morning America. He also lectured frequently on public policy and press issues.

Powell’s book, The Other Side of the Story, about the press/presidency relationship, was published in April 1984 by William Morrow & Company.

From January 1985 through May 1986, Powell held the Speaker Thomas P. O’Neill, Jr. Professorial Chair in American Politics at Boston College, teaching a course on the press and the presidency.  From 1987 until 1991, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Powell Adams & Rinehart, formerly Ogilvy & Mather Public Affairs.

Powell was born September 30, 1943, in Vienna, Ga., and attended public schools there.  He attended the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1961 to 1964 and graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in political science in 1966.  Powell became involved in the 1970 gubernatorial campaign of Jimmy Carter, working as a volunteer, while he was in graduate school at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., where he completed course work on a combined M.A./Ph.D. in political science.

It’s a dead poll. It’s been hacked and slashed and butchered and cheated into the most amazing state of pointless stupidity. It’s got 16 million votes on it, almost all from a handful of people running scripts on a computer. It is apparently on some wingnut email that is circulating aimlessly in the Sargasso of lies and rumors and urban folklore that stagnates forever in the mailing lists of cranks and bored office workers, and is constantly revivified by someone who sees it for the first time.

It is currently the #1 most common single topic in my new mail folder. I am about to blow up and launch fireballs of wrath at anyone who sends it to me again. Actually, what I’m going to have to do is start blacklisting everyone who sends it to me — that’ll make the email slightly more manageable. But if you do send me email telling me about an MSNBC poll, it will be the last piece of email I ever see from you.
